Unfortunately, it has been left exposed to the elements for far too long -- the sun, in particular, has bleached the vitality of the color out of it. A lesson learned. This picture, unfortunately, also has significant glare issues. Suckage!

Poppies34 viewsI have no idea where this painting went to. It has a sort of dreamlike quality to it that I wish I could recreate -- the blue of the sky, the red of the poppies, the figures in the middle distance. I remember painting that sky -- a blend of french ultramarine and really high quality cobalt blue scumbled vividly together. If you find someone with this painting, please have them give me a ring, eh?

Burning God - Kevin Nielsen, 199826 viewsOne of my first oil paintings, this incindiary piece was inspired by the Bremerton Kona Village Fire in 1997, which both provided the subject matter for this particular piece and robbed me of most of my other creative outlets, at least for a while. This is the first painting where I felt a full sense of the possibilities that oils allowed for.

Unfortunately, while it was drying I left this outside, leaning against a fence, in the rain. The frame is slightly warped and never achieved straightness again.
